Carl Sweetchuck is one of the new cadets that first appeared in the second film, as a shop owner terrorized by Zed and his gang. Later, he’s officially an officer on the force.

Characteristics[]

Sweetchuck is one of the stereotypical nerd figures in his time as a civilian who was always an easy target for such ruthless criminals and gang members, particularly by Zed, before their times as cadets and by police officers.

However, as time went by, he decided he’d have the chance to better himself by entering the academy as a cadet, and eventually became a police officer and less of a target, let alone a victim.

Role in the films[]

In the second film, he was a civilian who owned a shop during the time when the 16th precinct was being overtaken by Zed and his gang. When Mahoney and Schtulman were on their routine patrol passing by Sweetchuck’s store, they saw and armed robbery and reported it in. Sweetchuck’s store was inadvertently destroyed by them and some of the other officers who were responding to the 211 in progress after the bandits already escaped. Later, Sweetchuck, in the best way he could, escaped Zed’s men in the Blue Oyster Bar and then left the bar.

In the third film, Sweetchuck decides to join the force after his store is destroyed. Unfortunately to his chagrin, his former tormentor Zed joins the academy and assigned in the same class as him, and as mismatched roommates. A stereotypical nerd, Sweetchuck's diminutive size and geeky appearance provided many gags, usually in relation to his physical weakness or as a foil for fellow recruit Zed.

After just a few days, Sweetchuck could not take any more of Zed's antics and attempted to leave the academy but was convinced by Tackleberry to stay. As time went on, Sweetchuck and Zed eventually got along better and putting the past behind, though Sweetchuck still gets mad at Zed for one thing or the other.

In the fourth film, he’s an officer on the force who is listening with the rest of the officers in Lassard’s office about his Citizens On Patrol program and suggests in that they recruit in their old neighborhood. He works alongside Zed keeping the recruits on the program on their toes about sticking to the program.

In the animated series, Zed and Sweetchuck are partners. He has a younger brother named Doug who is an FBI agent.
